HC Deb 06 December 1927 vol 211 c1194W
Mr. T. THOMSON

asked the Minister of Health the total amount of outdoor poor relief paid to able-bodied unemployed persons between December, 1918, and the present time or to the nearest available date?

Sir K. WOOD

The available statistics do not enable this information to be given in the precise form desired. The total cost of the out-relief in money and kind given to persons ordinarily engaged in some regular occupation and the wives and dependent children of these persons between December, 1918, and the present time is, approximately, £56,000,000.
