HC Deb 04 April 1927 vol 204 c1718W
Mr. DUCKWORTH

asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of new sugar-beet factories which are contemplated; whether any applications for assistance-under the Trade Facilities Act have been received in connection with any of them; and whether, in view of the magnitude of the subsidy now entailed, he will recommend that these new undertakings should not receive any further assistance in the direction specified, the more so as there is no statutory obligation?

Mr. GUINNESS

I understand that four new beet sugar factories will be erected this year, namely, at Bardney, Selby, King's Lynn and Alscott. of these the Bardney factory only has received guarantees under the Trade Facilities Act. The Act expired on the 31st March last and the last part of the question therefore does not arise.
