asked the Minister of Labour the number of applications for extended benefit in the Sheffield area during the last six months; the number granted and refused; and similar figures for the same period a year ago?

During the six months 11th May, 1926, to 15th November, 1926, 57,075 applications for extended benefit were considered by local committees in the Sheffield area, of which 51,693 were recommended for allowance and 5,382 for disallowance. For the six months ended 16th November, 1925, the corresponding figures were 40,272 claims considered, 36,141 recommended for allowance and 4,131 for disallowance.
