HC Deb 11 March 1926 vol 192 cc2614-5W
Mr. BUXTON

asked the Minister of Health if he will grant a Return showing the regulations in force in European countries in regard to methods of slaughtering animals for food and giving reports from His Majesty's Embassies and Legations in regard to their working?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I will consider the right hon. Member's suggestion.

Mr. BUXTON

asked the Minister of Health if he will give the number of county boroughs and other authorities which have established municipal abattoirs with a monopoly of slaughtering in their area and without such a monopoly, respectively?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The number of local authorities in England and Wales which have established abattoirs is about 100, including the councils of about 40 county boroughs. I regret that I have no figures available as to the number of authorities which require all slaughtering to be carried out at municipal abattoirs.
