HC Deb 04 March 1926 vol 192 cc1637-8W
Miss WILKINSON

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury on what grounds a temporary woman official is retained in charge of the women's establishment branch of the Inland Revenue Department, thus blocking the promotion avenues for suitable permanent women staff employed in that Department; whether the substitution committee for the Inland Revenue Department headquarters has ever considered her case and recommended her retention on hardship lines; and whether any temporary women officials are still employed in the Civil Service in posts of an executive or administrative type other than posts existing in respect of dying work performed by temporary staff?

Mr. McNEILL

The officer referred to is retained on grounds of efficiency and convenience. The case is not one falling within the purview of a body commissioned to substitute ex-service men for women. I am not aware of any permanent posts of an executive or administrative character in the service which are held by temporary women officials.
