MITCHELLasked the Secretary for Scotland if he is aware that the Scottish Oil Company have intimated that they are going to dismantle the shale mines at Tarbrax; if he is aware that 1351W good housing accommodation exists in this locality; in view of this fact, will the Government consider the possibility of taking steps to assist the shale industry; and, if not, will they assist some other form of industry to be set up in this locality?
§ Sir J. GILMOURI am informed that the position is as stated in the first part of the question. With regard to the second part, I understand that the houses are for the most part room and kitchen houses with a scullery and water-closet, and that they are good houses of their kind. I can give no undertaking with regard to the last two parts of the question.
