For the year 1903, the figures for each country distinguished represent the value of the goods shipped from the United Kingdom to ports in that country. 332W For later dates, the figures represent the values of goods consigned to the several countries specified, whether conveyed direct by sea or not. Thus goods destined for the Transvaal or the Orange Free State, if landed at ports in Portuguese East Africa, were not recorded in 1903 as exports to the Union of South Africa.
In the years 1923 and 1924, the Union of South Africa includes the South-West Africa Protectorate, not included in 1903 333W or 1913. In the case of the "Colonies, Protectorates, etc." there are also included in 1923 and 1924 certain territories not included in 1903 and 1913.
