HC Deb 17 February 1926 vol 191 cc1953-4W
Mr. THOMSON

also asked the Minister of Labour the number of men at present employed on the various forms of relief work subsidised by the Unemployment Grants Committee, and the number similarly employed a year ago?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

At 28th December, 1925, the latest date for which figures are available, the number of men directly employed on schemes of work subsidised through the Unemployment Grants Committee was 33,280, as compared with 28,605 at 27th December, 1924. These figures represent the number of men actually employed on the dates given, and exclude additional men not at work on those dates for whom employment was given by means of working alternate weeks or other short-time systems.
