HC Deb 16 February 1926 vol 191 cc1739-40W
Viscountess ASTOR

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that the women's colleges in Oxford and Cambridge are sufferers under the recent decision of the House of Lords in Brighton College v. Marriott; and whether the Government will introduce an amendment in the Finance Bill to relieve these and other educational institutions of the burden which is thus imposed upon them?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I would refer my Noble Friend to the reply which my right hon. Friend the Financial Secretary to the Treasury gave to my hon. Friend the Member for the English Universities (Sir Martin Conway) on the 11th February. I am sending her a copy of that reply, to which I am unable usefully to add anything.
