§ Sir A. STEEL-MAITLANDThe restriction on unemployment grants was announced to local authorities in a circular dated 15th December. Since that date schemes of the gross value of £3,170,000 have been rejected, including schemes which would have been rejected in any event. Schemes of the gross value of £478,000 have been approved and schemes of the gross value of £1,861,000 are still under consideration. Figures for the number of men affected in each case are not available.
