HC Deb 10 February 1926 vol 191 c1049W
Mr. FORREST

asked the Minister of Labour on how many relief schemes work is being held up, and how many schemes have been abandoned, in consequence of the Government's new policy in regard to unemployment relief works; and the number of men affected in each instance?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

The restriction on unemployment grants was announced to local authorities in a circular dated 15th December. Since that date schemes of the gross value of £3,170,000 have been rejected, including schemes which would have been rejected in any event. Schemes of the gross value of £478,000 have been approved and schemes of the gross value of £1,861,000 are still under consideration. Figures for the number of men affected in each case are not available.
