HC Deb 04 August 1926 vol 198 cc3009-10W
Mr. MONTAGUE

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what are the duties laid down for copying typists and shorthand typists, respectively, covered by the scales for these classes recommended in the Reorganisation Report of the National Whitley Council in 1920; whether, in the case of copying typists, these duties include any work other than routine copying with the aid of a typewriter, such as would be proper to the writing assistant class were the copying performed by hand; and whether, in the case of shorthand typists, the duties in any case go beyond the taking down of routine dictation in shorthand and the transcription a these shorthand notes with the aid of a typewriter?

Mr. McNEILL

The duties of copying typists and shorthand typists are not actually laid down in the Report of the Reorganisation Committee, but they are sufficiently indicated in general terms by the titles of the grades, and correspond generally with the duties set out by the hon. Member.
