§ Colonel DAYasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that there are a large number of empty houses which arc being withheld from occupation; and will he take steps to introduce a. special Measure enforcing local authorities to make use of such houses for the purpose of providing accommodation for families?
§ Mr. N. CHAMBERLAINI am aware that there is always a certain number of unoccupied houses which are held for sale. Local authorities already have power under the Housing Acts to purchase or lease houses suitable for the working classes, but I do not consider it would be practicable to legislate on the lines suggested by the hon. and gallant Member.
