Mr. FOOT MITCHELLasked the Minister of Agriculture whether, seeing that within the last year £20,000,000 worth of Danish bacon has been imported into this country, he will take steps to cause a substantial part of this public demand for bacon to be met by the development of the pig industry here?
Mr. WOODI have recently received representations on this subject from the National Association of Pig Breeders, and am giving the matter careful consideration with a view to seeing whether it is possible by Government action to do anything to develop the pig industry. The number of pigs shown in the Returns collected by my Department on the 4th June last was higher than in any previous year.
