§ Colonel ENGLANDasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the League of Nations is considering the organisation of international action with a view to the prohibition of the use of poison gas in warfare; and, if so, what is exactly the position of such action?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINAt the Arms Traffic Conference held at Geneva in May last under the auspices of the League of Nations, a protocol was drawn up prohibiting the use of chemical or bacteriological methods of warfare. Twenty-five States have signed the protocol, which remains open for accession by other Powers. It comes into force immediately on ratification as between those States which have ratified.
