§ Mr. COOPER RAWSONasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether any instructions or suggestions have been conveyed to the Ministry of Transport with a view to curtailing promises to local authorities of further grants for new proposals for large works of improvements or new road construction to be carried out during 1926 or subsequent years which would involve any 2183W charge upon the Road Fund; and, if so, how long such restriction on grants has been in force?
§ Mr. McNEILLThe money available during the current financial year for new improvement schemes and for the construction of new roads was allocated some time ago and local authorities have in several instances been informed that no further moneys are at present avail able. A very large range of new works and improvements remains to be executed on the programmes of road expenditure already approved.
