§ Colonel DAYasked the Postmaster-General if he is aware of the dissatisfaction existing among temporary workers employed for Christmas work owing to the rates of pay being less than the permitted maximum; and whether any action is contemplated in order that these rates of remuneration shall be made more uniform?
§ Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSONThe rates of pay for the temporary staff to be employed during the coming Christmas season will be fixed, within certain maxima, according to local circumstances, the rates generally being somewhat higher than those paid last year. In view of the widely varying conditions in towns and villages throughout the country, I do not think that uniform rates would be suitable.
