§ Mr. RAWLINSONasked the Minister of Health what is the estimated cost in the first instance of the transfer of the duties of the administration of the Poor Law from the guardians to the county council, including the cost of adjusting boundaries; and what is the estimated cost of the annual increase of the cost of administration in subsequent years?
§ Sir K. WOODIt is not practicable to make such an estimate as my hon. and learned friend suggests, and I may say that my right hon. Friend is not aware of any foundation for certain figures which have recently been published in this connection. As regards the last part of the question, my right hon. Friend would anticipate that an important result of the reform would be a considerable saving in administration as a consequence of similar services at present in the hands of two sets of authorities being transferred to one class of authority.
