Mr. ERSKINEasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that it has been calculated that at least 1,000,000 bushels of soot fell over London on the two days preceding last week s black fog; and will he take steps to bring in a smoke abatement Bill at the earliest possible date, in view of the damage to health, property, and industry which smoke and fogs create?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINI am not aware where my hon. Friend gets his estimate or on what it is based, but I have already stated that it is my intention to introduce next Session a Bill dealing with smoke.
