§ Major BIRCHALLasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether he is aware that orders are being lost by British traders supplying textile machinery to Germany owing to the necessity for obtaining import licences; and whether he can take any steps, in the interest of British trade, to induce the German Government to abolish such licences, seeing that the British import tax has been reduced from 26 per cent. to 5 per cent.?
Mr. ALEXANDERMy attention has recently been drawn to the difficulties mentioned in the first part of the question. As regards the second part, representations are being made to the German Government on the general question of the German import restrictions as affecting the trade of this country.
