§ Mr. BARNESasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the terms of the Crown concession granted to Mr. J. W. Previté, Mr. H. A. Greig and the New York and Trinidad Asphalte Company for Trinidad Lake asphalte (pitch lake), permit of a monopoly being created in the United Kingdom?
Mr. THOMASThe lease granted by the Government of Trinidad covered the whole area of the Pitch Lake in Trinidad. No conditions regulating the sale of asphalt were included in the terms of the lease, but I see no reason to suppose that the concession would have the effect indicated.
