§ Mr. LINFIELDasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that under the present excise regulations in Ceylon licences to sell intoxicating liquors are granted for one year only; whether it is intended to introduce changes which will extend this period to three years; and whether, in view of the fact that such an alteration in the rules would retard the operation and diminish the value of local option, steps will be taken to suspend the new proposal pending further inquiries?
Mr. THOMASI have no information as to the proposed change in practice, but I will ask the Governor for a report in the matter.
