§ Sir F. WISEasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty if he can give the reason for salving the scuttled German warships at Scapa Flow; who is doing it; if there is a profit in the transaction; and if the warships are to be eventually broken up?
§ Mr. AMMONContracts for raising some of the ex-German vessels sunk in50W Scapa Flow have been given to Messrs. Cox and Danks and the Scapa Flow Salvage and Shipbreaking Company, Ltd. As the operations are very speculative it is not possible to say whether the contractors will profit by them, but the vessels have been sold at fixed prices. It is provided in the contracts that the vessels shall be broken up in the United Kingdom, and this should result in giving employment and providing raw materials for industrial purposes.
