§ Mr. LINFIELDasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the head of the Native Affairs Department in Kenya Colony submits to the Government of Kenya Colony an annual Report upon the work of his Department; and whether, if such is the case, the annual Reports for the last five years may be called for from the Colony and be published as a White Paper?
§ Mr. LUNNThe Chief Native Commissioner furnishes annually an administrative Report, which is written for information of the Governor and the Secretary of State, and not for publication; but a summary of these Reports appears in the general Annual Report of the Colony.
§ Mr. LINFIELDasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the Government of the mandated territory of Tanganyika is making every effort to encourage the natives of that territory to 1272W grow coffee; and whether he is prepared to recommend that similar steps should be taken in the neighbouring territory of Kenya Colony?
§ Mr. LUNNThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards Kenya, the technical advisers of the Governor are disposed to consider that the economic advantage is against encouraging coffee growing by natives who can, on land which would grow coffee, equally well grow other crops with less trouble in cultivation, and without danger through disease to the production of higher grade coffee.
