HC Deb 31 July 1924 vol 176 cc2282-3W
Mr. MACLEAN

asked the Minister of Labour whether, in the framing of schemes for the employment of unemployed, he will give favourable consideration to the proposals for a public highway between Glasgow and Inverness via Fort William, and the construction of a Mid-Scotland ship canal?

Mr. GOSLING

I have been asked to answer this question. As I explained to the hon. Member on the 5th June last, I shall not be in a position until the general investigation has been completed, to decide what particular road works should have priority in this area. With regard to the suggested Mid-Scotland Ship Canal, the difficulties of such an undertaking were explained in the reply which I gave to the hon. Member on the 6th June last, and I see no prospect of the work going forward.
