HC Deb 28 July 1924 vol 176 c1772W
Mr. HANNON

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether the financial results of the mussel-cleansing tanks at Conway continue to improve; whether the accumulated loss will be balanced by the profits of the current year; and whether, having regard to the recent rise in the cost of living, it is now possible to charge less than 1s 6d. per bag for cleaning the mussels?

Mr. BUXTON

I regret to say that the general improvement in the financial position which took place during the years 1919 to 1922 has not been maintained, and the answer to the second part of the hon. Member's question is in the negative. As regards the last part of the question, the fee to be charged during the season 1924–5 is now under review, and will not be fixed until all relevant factors have been considered.
