asked the Home Secretary what is the number of prisoners usually under detention at Wormwood Scrubs and Bristol prisons, respectively; and what are the salaries and emoluments paid to the governors of each of the above-mentioned prisons?

Mr. HENDERSON

The daily average number of prisoners for the year ended 31st March, 1924, was 494 at Wormwood Scrubs, and 120 at Bristol. The salaries and emoluments of the governors are £700, plus £213 18s. bonus, at Wormwood Scrubs, and £595, plus £200 6s. bonus, at Bristol, with quarters valued at £52 in each case.
