Member for Tiverton, as representing the Forestry Commissioners, if he is aware that the wages paid to some of the workmen employed in Cumberland by the Forestry Commissioners is only 30s. per week, and that the hours worked are nine hours per day; and, if so, is he prepared to recommend to the Commissioners that their wages should be increased and their conditions improved?
§ Mr. ACLANDThe agricultural wage in the district of Cumberland where the Forestry Commissioners' areas are situate is 30s. per week of 54 hours in summer and 48 hours in winter. At Wythop, for the week ended 27th June, one adult workman was paid 30s. and the six others 32s.; at Thornthwaite the four adult workmen were paid 35s.; these wages are considered to be reasonable.
