asked the Under-Secretary of State for India what steps are being taken to make adequate the pay and allowances of English officers serving in India; and whether he is aware of the present inadequacy, especially in the case of married officers without private means?

The position of married officers is receiving special attention in connection with the revision of pay which is now under consideration.
