HC Deb 14 July 1924 vol 176 c41W
Sir R. ASKE

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether he is aware that numbers of disabled ex-service men have recently been discharged from the Royal Naval Ordnance Department, and that women (some of them being married) have been employed in their stead or are being continued in employment in the Department after these dismissals; and, if so, whether the Admiralty will reinstate these disabled men?

Mr. HODGES

The women are employed on work which is recognised as women's work, and are not employed in place of the men who have been discharged on account of the falling off in the amount of work usually performed by men. I regret that the redundant men cannot be reinstated.
