YATEasked the Under-Secretary of State for India the result of the correspondence with the Government of India regarding the position of British members of the All-India services being treated on a different footing to British members of the provincial services in India in the matter of retirement on proportionate pensions under the reform scheme of 1919; and whether the Secretary of State will now give effect to the original proposals of the Government of India and the recommendation of the Joint Committee and withdraw the limit prescribed in 1921?
§ Mr. RICHARDSThe question of the position of members of the provincial services is a large one, and consultation is necessary not only with the Government of India but also with the local governments, which are the authorities primarily concerned. This is being undertaken, and I cannot make any statement at present or promise one in the immediate future.
