§ Captain TERRELLasked the Minister of Labour if he can state those major industries in this country which have not already a working week of 48 hours or less and whether the Washington Convention dealing with the imposition of an eight-hour day will, if ratified, affect all of them?
§ Mr. SHAWI am sending to the hon. and gallant Member a statement showing the agreed weekly hours in the major industries. From this it will be seen that the provisions of the Washington Hours Convention as regards a weekly limit of 48 hours under normal conditions are already in very general operation by agreement between employers' and workers' organisations.
