A return obtained from the local authorities for the six months ended 30th September last showed that in that period 20,982 houses had been completed of not more than £26 rateable value in the provinces and not more than £35 in the Metropolitan Police district. A similar return obtained in March, 1923, showed that 9,971 similar houses had been completed by private enterprise in the period from 1st October, 1922, to 1st March, 1923.This return did not include building in the areas of rural 1787Wl district councils.
