§ Mr. LLOYDasked the Postmaster-General whether his attention has been called to complaints from emigrants to Australia of the non-receipt of parcels addressed to them; whether, seeing that the loss of these parcels may be due to the fact that such parcels have to bear on their outside cover a full description of the contents, and in view of the liability to theft which this encourages, he will arrange with the Australian postal authorities to abandon this practice, and require only a description of the contents on a separate form?
§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSComplaints of loss of parcels addressed to Australia appear to be very few in number. Perhaps the hon. Member will let me have any information in his possession. There is no reason to suppose that risk of loss is increased by the fact that the contents of the parcels are fully described for Customs purposes.
