HC Deb 02 May 1923 vol 163 cc1425-6W
Mr. SHORT

asked the Minister of Labour the date of the last meeting of the Committee appointed to consider the question of payment of unemployment benefit to workers thrown out of employment by reason of a trade dispute; whether he has taken steps to appoint a new chairman; if so, whom; and when the Committee will make some recommendation upon the matter?

Sir M. BARLOW

Owing to the death of the Chairman, the late Sir Thomas Munro, which we all deplore, the Committee has not met since 6th March. I am glad to be able to announce that Mr. W. B. Yates, who until recently was Umpire under the Unemployment Insurance Acts, has consented to act as Chairman of the Committee, and I hope a further meeting will be held at an early date.
