HC Deb 02 May 1923 vol 163 cc1406-7W
Mr. LANSBURY

asked the Minister of Health whether his Department received a letter, dated 29th September, 1922, from the Poplar Board of Guardians protesting against the action of the Ministry of Pensions in forcing four ex-service disabled men on the rates of Poplar, thus giving these men the status of paupers; seeing that the Poplar Board declined to accept responsibility for these men and refused to pay any money for their maintenance, what steps he proposes to take?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I regret that in answering the hon. Member's previous question on this subject last Wednesday I assumed that he referred to a recent communication. I do not think that I can take any action in this matter. I understand that the men referred to are being maintained by the county council, and the question of payment for their maintenance is, therefore, one between the county council and the guardians.
