§ Captain ELLIOTI am not aware that I gave any promise such as is suggested by the hon. Member. I stated in reply to his question on the subject on the 20th March that information regarding this matter was being collected by the Fishery Board and the Scottish Board of Health. The returns asked for by the latter Department from the authorities of the areas drained by the River Nith have not yet been furnished in all cases. I understand, however, that Dumfries County Council are in communication with other local authorities concerned with a view to remedial measures being undertaken where necessary, to reduce the existing pollution of the river.
