§ Mr. DUNCANasked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether the maintenance of Aldershot Barracks is done by private contractors; whether, when tendering for this work, a schedule of the wages of the workmen to be employed on this work is submitted with the tender or after the tender has been 64W accepted; and whether any inquiry of any kind is made, and, if so, by whom,. to ensure that the Schedule wages are being paid to the workmen employed?
§ Mr. GWYNNEAs regards the first part of the question, the maintenance of barracks at Aldershot is carried out by contractors, who are required, as a condition of their contract, to comply with the Fair Wages Resolution of this House. They are not called on to submit beforehand a schedule of the wages of the-workmen to be employed, and the last part of the question does not, therefore, arise.
