§ Mr. EMLYN-JONESasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies what control His Majesty's Government exercises over the Island of Tristan da Cunha; whether there is anyone actually in residence on the island responsible to the Government; and what is the latest Report received as to the conditions which prevail thereat?
§ Mr. ORMSBY-GORE:The Island of Tristan da Cunha is. a British Possession, but His Majesty's Government are not in a position to make any arrangements for its administration, and there is nobody in residence on the island who is responsible to them. My latest information regarding the conditions prevailing in Tristan da Cunha is derived from accounts by the Reverend H. M. Rogers, the Missionary on the island, and Commander Wild, which appeared in the Press last summer.
