§ Sir W. de FRECEasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether, in view of the official decision not to meet the extra cost entailed by the award to the Lytton entrants of the Southborough Committee by means of the introduction of a Supplementary Estimate, he can state how it is proposed to effect the necessary equivalent economies without affecting the remuneration of the existing staff?
§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSDepartments will be expected, as in all ordinary cases of unforseen expenditure, to meet the additional charge arising out of the adoption of the Southborough Committee recommendations from general savings on their Votes.
