§ Mr. FOOTasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Overseas Trade Depart- 1890W ment whether he is aware that the Italian Government have recently abolished the import duty on some salt fish such as cod and herrings, but that the import duty on salted pilchards has been neither reduced nor abolished; and whether, having regard to the importance of the pilchard fishing industry, he will make representations to the Italian Government so that salted pilchards might be included amongst the salt fish imported into that country without duty?
§ Lieut.-Colonel BUCKLEYThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As to the second part, His Majesty's Ambassador at Rome has already been requested to furnish a report, in the light of which the utility of taking action as suggested will be considered.
