HC Deb 02 August 1923 vol 167 cc1761-2W
Mr. A. BENNETT

asked the Prime Minister whether the Government will consider the allocation of the £12,000 annual grant for combating venereal disease between the Society for the Prevention of Venereal Disease and the National Council for Combating Venereal Disease; whether he is aware that the latter organisation is the only one in receipt of any State assistance; and why, seeing the Trevethin Report has been unconditionally accepted by both, there is any differentiation made in respect to the Government assistance given?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

As regards the first part of the question, the maximum grant which will be paid from the Ministry direct to voluntary organisations in aid of their work in combating these diseases is £7,500. The answer to the second part is in the affirmative. As regards the third part, the question of Government assistance to the work of voluntary organisations will come up for review in connection with the recommendations in the Trevethin Report, which is now under consideration.
