§ Major M. WOODasked the Minister of Health whether he has received any protest from the medical profession in Lancashire with regard to the appointment of the superintendent of Prestwich Asylum, Manchester; and what action he proposes to take in the matter?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINThe Board of Control have received no official information of the appointment of a medical 1515W superintendent at Prestwich Mental Hospital, but they understand that an appointment, to which strong exception is taken, was made last week by the Lancashire Asylums Board. The appointment rests with that body alone, but the Board of Control in January last suggested that it would be of advantage if they were consulted in regard to it. I do not know why this advice has not been acted upon, but the Board of Control propose to make some inquiry about the appointment.
