HC Deb 26 April 1923 vol 163 cc712-3W
Mr. TURNER

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make an appeal to holders of War Loan of £50,000 and over to reduce voluntarily their rate of interest, so as to help the nation to reduce the heavy burden of interest charges and thus give industry a chance to recover?

Mr. BALDWIN

I do not see why holders of particular amounts of War Loan should be expected to act differently from other stockholders or from taxpayers generally. It is well known that anyone who wishes to make a special contribution for the reduction of debt can do so by communicating with the Treasury.
