§ Sir N. JODRELLasked the Minister of Agriculture if he is aware that an unusually large number of seals have recently appeared in the Wash and are seriously depleting the fish in those waters; and will he take steps to deal with the situation without delay?
§ Sir R. SANDERSI am aware than an increase of the number of seals in the Wash has been reported by the Chief 701W Fishery Officer of the Eastern Sea Fisheries Committee, and there is no doubt that they destroy large quantities of fish. My Department has neither funds nor staff available for the destruction of seals, but I hope that, as a result of a suggestion made by the Ministry's fishery officer in the district, arrangements may be made locally for dealing with this pest.
