HC Deb 09 April 1923 vol 162 cc892-3W
Sir C. YATE

asked the Tinder-Secretary of State for India whether, considering that marriage allowance has now been granted to junior officers in India pro- moted from the ranks, and that married officers of the Army in India not promoted from the ranks are in many cases drawing less pay than they would be if they were serving at Home, arrangements can now be made for the grant of this marriage allowance to all officers of the Army in India?

Earl WINTERTON

The allowance was granted to meet the special circumstances of subalterns promoted from the rank who, being older than those directly commissioned, have heavier liabilities. There is no present intention of granting any specific allowance to other married officers.
