§ Mr. A. ALEXANDERasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether a bookmaker's business has been registered under the Industrial and Provident Societies Acts under the title of the National Co-operative Turf Association, Limited: whether he is satisfied that the objects of this association are such as properly come within the terms of the Industrial and Provident Societies Acts: and, if not, what steps he proposes to take in the matter?
§ Mr. BALDWINThe association referred to was registered under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act, 1893, on 14th September, 1922, for the purpose of carrying on the businesses of commission agents, bookmakers and turf accountants, and of betting at starting price odds or any other system. The Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies informs me that he gave this case the most careful consideration, and came to the conclusion that there was no legal ground on which he could refuse to register it.
