Mr. DOYLEasked the Minister of Agriculture whether his attention has been drawn to the inaccurate statement made in the Agricultural Market Report, which is stated to have been prepared and edited by him, in relation to the importation of condensed milk into this country; and whether he has any statement to make on the matter?
Sir A. BOSCAWENThe article on milk imports in the Agricultural Market Report was directed mainly to setting out the statistics of the imports of milk into the United Kingdom, and the changes in recent years in the principal sources of these imports. There is no inaccuracy in the statements made in the article, but I am aware that it has been criticised on the ground that the causes of the changes referred to were not fully explained, more particularly in relation to the position as regards the production of condensed milk in and its export from the United Kingdom, and the effect of war conditions on the direction of the trade. These points, however, were outside the scope of the article.
