HC Deb 09 May 1922 vol 153 cc2038-9W
Mr. ALLEN PARKINSON

asked the President of the Board of Education what facilities for qualifying by examination the Board proposes for supplementary teachers; and what proportion of supplementary teachers have qualified as certificated teachers during the last five years?

Mr. FISHER

In Circular 1169, dated 9th July, 1920, the Board impressed upon local education authorities the importance of providing for supplementary teachers such facilities as will enable them to seek qualification as teachers under the Code, and stated that in considering the employment of supplementary teachers in an area, special regard would be given to the arrangements made in this respect. The Board have no details of the extent to which supplementary teachers have availed themselves of the facilities offered them by local education authorities.

Mr. ALLEN PARKINSON

asked the President of the Board of Education whether service as a supplementary teacher will be allowed to count as qualifying service in respect of pensions and allowances for such supplementary teachers as may obtain educational qualifications?

Mr. FISHER

Service as a supplementary teacher in a public elementary school is treated as "qualifying" service for the purposes of the School Teachers (Superannuation) Act, 1918.
