Dyson, permanent civil clerk in the Army Pay Department, has been retired after 44 years' continuous good service without any superannuation allowance; whether he is aware that the reason assigned is that Mr. Dyson was not on the established list; and that on joining the Department in 1877 he passed the ordinary examination, similar to that passed by other clerks who have been superannuated; and why an exception has been made in his case?

§ Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANSThis case has already been brought to my notice by the hon. and gallant Member for Fareham (Sir J. Davidson), and I regret that it is not possible to alter the decision conveyed to Mr. Dyson. As he was not holding an established post, he is entitled only to a gratuity, and not to a superannuation allowance. His case differs from that of the other clerks to whom my hon. and gallant Friend refers, as they are holding established posts.
