HOLBROOKasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has now been able to carry out his undertaking to close down the establishment division of the Food Department; whether the services of Miss Curtis, whom he stated was temporarily employed at a salary of £700 per annum, have been dispensed with or whether it is contemplated to transfer her to some other position in the Civil Service; and, if the transfer is contemplated, whether he will first consider the claims of ex-officers and men who fought in the War and have since had experience in Government Departments?
§ Mr. BALDWINThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The salaried employment of the officer referred to terminated on the 18th February, but she is completing, on a part-time basis, certain work which her experience renders her specially qualified to perform. The claims of ex-officers and men who fought in the War have been, and will be, given every consideration.
